Transfer My Tragedy

Quite a better look at my coat, no?

wearing club manaco coat, three tights, vintage boots, h&m dress on top of a Bebe dress

Today it was ridiculously cold in NYC.
I always feel that wearing platform heels is the best idea when the weather is below freezing because your feet aren't touching the ground as much ;)

My platform heel boots kept my feet very warm and my thick tights kept my legs warm ( i wore three tights).
But i also wore a thick puffy vest, a sweater and a ruffled angora scarf that i threw off to take a few pictures in the freezing cold.
I've seen plenty of my favorite bloggers internationally braving the cold for their style blogs so i shall do the same.

pending New Year's resolutions:

  • Moisturize more , use all of my great great Bliss and VS lotions
  • Save money for my trip to South America
  • plan more for my trip to South America
  • more posts on my blog
and others....

Dark Cave

Today i went to watch Avatar with the bf, i'm sure by now you will all have heard about how incredible this movie is, so go get your movie tickets.

Second, i wanted to post these pictures i took last week before i went to the show.
(not sure why but just about every girl was wearing keds, our toes were freezing!)

Mongrel Mind

Standing around in a cold dank room with many of Brooklyn's most unkempt was not the right way to spend my night. Dudes were getting reckless, bands were drunk, and the whole scene seemed really ... well scene.
But taking a look at these pictures i can almost convince myself that it was worth freezing to death at the Silent Barn on a below 30 degree night last week and though i am not going to use the H word– after hearing it on Vh1 a few months ago i've become convinced that the word has lost all meaning– they were definitely of a certain type.
It was still fun to see everyone push each other around...
enjoy.

I Remember Punk

Photobucket

Taking another look at the Keds- Opening Ceremony collabo (if you are not sure what Opening Ceremony is then you have no business looking at a style blog).
These three designs are part of their second collection.
They deserve to be seen, do you not agree?
They deserve to be taken out for a walk in the ole' urban jungle next year.
Not your average grungy comfy canvas sneaker, these puppies are a pony hair animal print that were inspired by the British punk rock scene circa 1977.
These come in men's and women's sizes, and at measly 125 USD they are necessary, necessary, necessary.

They are available in OC locations in NYC (yap!), LA, Tokyo and in Colette Paris and Harvey Nichols in London.

Children's Gift Ideas

As someone who is a bit past the age when i can get genuinely excited about the holiday season without worrying about my expenses i think it's relevant and important to remind everyone why we go through this mass hysteria every year. For many it is to give and get back, for still others those with little children and young siblingsthe meaning becomes even more clear as we see them get excited over christmas lights in their neighborhood and gaze in awe as the tree goes up. Things that as children we all everyone of us used to do. The fact is that very many of us carry on just to make their holiday season what they expect it to be. Which is why i wanted to bring to your attention something that helps other children in many parts of the world, a present that also gives to the little ones in your life.

TeaCollection is a line of Children's Clothing that offers a contribution of 50% of all their sales from their Little Citizens line to the Global Fund for Children.

The Global Fund for Children is a foundation that assists and helps organizations that help children in all parts of the world with things like literacy to general well being. It's a very important cause I might add.
By purchasing one of there Little Citizens items you can help be a part of a bigger help to children all over the world as well as getting something for a baby, toddler or young child in your life. They sell clothing for infants to 8 year olds. They also sell books for any other person you think might appreciate a "gift that gives back."
Another good gift idea is this Little Citizens tote bag, it can be used for anything from carrying an extra set of children's clothes to carrying some groceries.

Whatever your reason for partaking in this holiday season of spending, er, giving, remember that you have various choices for gifts and that a gift like a product from the Little Citizens line that both pleases the little children in your family and donates to a great cause is something that enriches your life and many other lives around the globe.

What We Call Epic

So here it is, my first annual list of the Best 10 Indie songs

2009

It took hours but i narrowed down my favorites to ten and though it came close to sounding completely lofi punk and grungy i made sure to have some variety for you guys. Now i'm completely sure there is one song here for everyone, now it's up to you guys to take the time to go through them.

**Ive tried to include favorite lyrics from each of the songs but some vocals were completely unintelligible. Also bear in mind that i have listened to over 700 new indie songs this year. So this is pretty serious.

hard to decide, actually no it wasn't, but this was top-numero-uno-best-of-the-best-song-of-2009 for me.

I'm going to see them play at the Silent Barn this Saturday with some friends... as some of you might remember i've been trying to see them live all year.

wearing pistachio tights, anne klein loafers, H&M scarf, H&M jacket, vintage ruffled sweater vest, and Urban Buzz top

Variation on something i wore the other week. I always think it interesting to mix and match with the same pieces- see what you can come up with - yet i'm so bad at it. Usually.

but i think i did ok this time around.
Not much going on this weekend seeing as my usual accomplice is working long weekend hours.
Just wanted to remind you all not to forget the less fortunate during this season of giving.
Donate if you can and try if you think you can't:
oh well good to catch up on some reading, I'm obsessed with two books of short stories, both by Margaret Atwood. She writes just the right things i love to read about in just the right style .
Thanks to my little sister who knows my taste in literature so well (probably because it's not very different from her own).
maybe i'll convince my bf to see the Fantastic Fox movie with me later tonight ;)
(my weekends usually start on Thursday)
stay tuned later this weekend for a few other posts . and my favorite indie songs of the year, not that you guys care but humour me.
this one won't be on the list but it gets honorable mention
